Press Release Body: San Jose, Costa Rica, August 06, 2008 -- Members of the online poker community PocketFives.com have dominated at the 2008 World Series of Poker, racking up the most profitable year to date even before the results from the Main Event have been determined. PocketFivers have racked up $15.9 million in earnings from this year's WSOP, just shy of 10% of the total prize pool given away. A total of eight players from PocketFives.com have won bracelets; the latest was Matt "mattg1983" Graham, who took home $278,180 for winning Event #53, the $1,500 Limit Shootout tournament.
PocketFivesLive.com, the premier destination for WSOP coverage of online poker players, has been live at the Rio since the tournament series began in May. WSOP Representative Nolan Dalla, who joined the PocketFives Podcast this week, commented on the massive turnout at the 2008 World Series of Poker: "We had an 8% increase in the number of participants. We had a 13% increase in the total prize money paid out, which is $180 million in 55 events."
PocketFives.com members won 7 of 11 major tournaments over the July 4th holiday weekend, led by Paul \"PIsom23\" Isom, who took down the PokerStars Sunday Million tournament for $177,000. Anthony \"holdplz\" Spinella won the Full Tilt $750K Guaranteed for close to $133K, and \"JohnnyBelow\" of Norway won the Full Tilt Sunday Brawl for $61,500. \"Webez\" earned $37,500 for his victory in the Absolute Poker $150K Guaranteed Weekly tournament, while \"Deckzor\" of Germany won the PokerStars $200 Sunday rebuy for $49k. \"Deckzor\" had to battle fellow PocketFiver Mike \"SirWatts\" Watson heads-up for over an hour to come out with the victory. Long time member \"pkb6786\" received $23,600 for his win in the Bodog $100K Guaranteed and \"dipthrong\" won the Full Tilt Sunday Mulligan for $44,400.
Daniel \"djk123\" Kelly is number one in the online tournament rankings this week, but \"shaundeeb\" of New York is close behind and moved up one spot to number two. Jon \"PearlJammer\" Turner and Phil \"USCphildo\" Collins moved up two spots to #5 and #7 respectively this week, but the big leap came from Stian \"JohnnyBelow\" Stabell of Norway. Stian moved up 35 to #50 in the world at online tournament play after winning the Full Tilt Sunday Brawl for $61,500 and placing third in the PokerStars Sunday Second Chance for $27,600 on the same day. Anthony \"holdplz\" Spinella of North Carolina entered the rankings this week at #69 following his victory in the Full Tilt $750K Guaranteed for nearly $133K. \"Pokersavage1\" entered the rankings this week at #77 after placing second in the PokerStars Sunday Million for over $120K.
